Artweaver maintains a delicate balance between super-advanced graphic designing tools and low to near basic graphic packages. While maintaining realistic imitation of brushes, chalks, charcoals, felt pens, pastels, oils, and pencils, Artweaver is a powerful and instantly accessible free drawing or painting program for users of all levels of ability.

Artweaver Download & Review 2024

If you have had hands-on Photoshop or Illustrator for at least once, you can hopefully relate to the interface. This is because it reflects it the most – yes, and it includes almost everything that you would expect. But then there’s the pro version which restricts you from doing what you like. It has a super clean interface that anyone can understand and enough features to make managing tasks effective but not overwhelming.

Wide Array of Powerful Features

Artweaver incorporates almost every feature which is useful for painting and image editing. It, for example, gives full support for layers, highly configurable brushes, along with a range of effects, filters, gradients and solid files, crop, transparency, effects (such as blur, sharpness, emboss, mosaic,.).

It also supports files formats like AWD (Artweaver), BMP, GIF, JPEG, PCX, TGA, TIFF, PNG, and PSD (incl. layers). There’s support for pen tablet, editable text layers, transparency, layers, and layer groups. It does support many languages while getting back the last edited steps. And there’s much more you can do with Art weaver to express your imagination.

Co-edit in Real Time with your Team

Connect with your friends, peer, or team to work together on the same document with other artists over LAN or the Internet. This would allow others to voice on your art, discuss if something went wrong or just workin’ together on a project assigned.

Put on Record your Drawing

Say you want your piece of drawing, your art to reach out to people, for example on Youtube. What will you do? Record it. That’s right, but art weaver pulls it off easily. You can record the whole painting process. Later you can play it and edit it for instance. Therefore, it helps to record the very steps of the drawing so you can save and playback the on-screen events.

Artweaver Free VS Artweaver Plus

It is obvious that the Pro or the Plus version would have more features or be more dynamic. But, you do need to know why you’ll be paying 34 € for the Plus version. So, the art weaver free has all the standard image editing tools like gradient, crop, fill, and selection tools that normally let you manipulate images and drawings.

It gives full support for common file formats like AWD (Artweaver), BMP, GIF, JPEG, PCX, TGA, TIFF, PNG, and PSD, and similarly supports for pen tablets through the Wintab and Windows Ink interface (Pen pressure). Artweaver free also includes the support to record and save the event files (i.e. your drawing).

With Free artweaver you can import images from scanners and digital cameras through the WIA interface, and obviously, you can work together in a team. Likewise, it integrates pre-defined digital brushes like chalk, charcoal, pencils, airbrushes, and basic brush methods like the cover, buildup, eraser etc. Remember that it supports a maximum of 250-pixel brush size in the free version.

The free version includes the individual arrangement and docking of palettes and free resizable pallets (that are both docked and stand-alone). Moreover, the free version does include the common image and effect filters like the curve, brightness or contrast…and the best part is that it supports virtual memory management with scratch disk support.

The maximum supported document sizes(in pixels) for art weaver free is 9999×9999 and it supports 8 bits/channel support. That’s all for the free version. The Artweaver Pro or the Plus version has all that is in the basic or the free version but extends its functionality to over-enhanced and additional tools like mirror painting and free transformation of selections. It also gives extended support of the PSD file format (e.g. Layer groups, selections, PSB, …). It also supports EXIF metadata in many file formats.

Artweaver Pro supports Pen tablets, pen erasers, and Tool-ID. The Plus version also gives protection for saved event files and supports events in the Artweaver Document file format(AWD). The Plus has additional brush types like Hairy brush, pixel brush, watercolor, and many more. It also has additional brush methods like colorizing, wrap, etc. The basic version supports a maximum of 250-pixel brush size whereas the Pro extends to over 999.

Artweaver Pro supports the custom palettes and shortcuts for menus and tools and allows for free rotatable and movable canvas. Similarly, you can use different color themes for the user interface. Is that it? No. In fact, it also includes additional image and effect filters like Channel mixer, deskews, filter gallery, and removes red-eye.

Interestingly, you can real-time preview for filters on the document canvas and also preset saving and loading for many filters. It does also support native 64 bit and 16 Bits/Channel support and multiple CPU cores. Also, it supports individual configuration of virtual memory management. The maximum supported document size in pixels for the Plus version is 24999×24999 whereas in the free version it is 9999×9999.

Conclusion

It’s actually believable that you can draw and manipulate images using art weaver without paying much for a mighty raster graphics editor. For me, it was genuinely fun. I drew Tom and Jerry’s cartoon and it turned out to be great. Yes, and you can do the same though! The tools were nice and simple – something that we could expect from decent design software. Later on, I made a logo – a simple logo that incorporated negative spacing just to entertain myself – nothing more.

So, it was definitely a sublime experience for me at least. Let me tell you something interesting. When I got finished with the drawing and hit the cross button, it felt as if I just used Photoshop. Artweaver is great because it is an art supply store and a blank canvas all rolled up into one with which you can create your own masterpieces and experiment with the multitude of built-in tools.
