Atlas VPN is a great VPN that doesn’t compromise on speed, encryption, anonymity, and user security. If any VPN service provider (free or paid) takes care of all that then extra money up front is better than leaving yourself wide open to evil eyes.

Let’s take a look at Atlas VPN and examine it through the categories of privacy, security, performance, speed results, streaming, torrenting, servers, ease of use, customer support, and of course pricing.

Your Privacy with Atlas VPN

Atlas Virtual Private Network has its privacy basics pivoted with AES-256 encryption, WireGuard, Kill Switch, and a private DNS system. This along with SafeSwap and SafeBrowse features bring in extra privacy protection.

Atlas VPN uses a private address book for looking up IP addresses for the websites you want to visit. It prevents other entities from learning what you do online. As an additional layer of security, all Atlas VPN servers use private DNS.

SafeSwap: SafeSwap servers allow you to access the internet from several IP addresses at a time. Jump between three spots (Singapore, Netherlands, and the US).

SafeBrowse: Denies Access to Malicious Websites.

As for now, SafeSwap works in three locations. The Netherlands, Singapore, and the United States. Growing the number of servers would require the provider to buy many IP addresses to set up one SafeSwap server. The company might consume some time doing this.

SafeSwap is currently available on Android, iOS, and Windows platforms. The macOS version might be released sooner.

The data hack detection feature checks whether your data has appeared in data breaches. If your data shows up in such a data breach, you would get the bullet points with the kind of data that was revealed. However, this is a feature limited to the paid version of the app.

This way you can quickly check whether or not your email address leaked, or whether passwords were affected. This serves as a good tool for reference when you’re trying to patch up security holes.

Atlas VPN does not log any user activity or any other data. The data required for connecting the VPN no longer stays there when you disconnect. The company’s privacy policy also states that it does not collect IP addresses. They also confirmed that they do not sell user data which is generous of them.

Atlas VPN’s policies aren’t as impressive. Access its website for the first time and its cookie disclaimer only has an ‘Accept’ option, for instance. If you give the company your email address, you’re opted in to receive marketing emails unless you specifically say otherwise.

The company further claimed that it does not share any data with law enforcement and government agencies who make requests for information about what you were doing through a VPN connection.

Atlas VPN operates under the legal jurisdiction of the US, which does not have data retention laws. Atlas has a global, distributed workforce with its physical office located in Lithuania.

The trend among the best VPNs is commissioning third-party audits of their infrastructure and policies to establish their privacy bona fides. Atlas VPN has successfully commissioned an audit of its iOS app from VerSprite.

This was a black box review. It means the auditors tested the functionality of the app but did not see the source code. It did post some of the results in a blog post but has not published a full report so there’s no way to judge it for ourselves.

Nord VPN has commissioned several audits over the years, and TunnelBear VPN continues to make good on its promise to release annual third-party audits. We expect Atlas VPN to do the same.

Since a VPN aims to bolster your online security and privacy, the best providers do not collect any personally identifiable data that can be linked back to you. Atlas VPN honors this and does not keep any sensitive data logs like your IP address, location, or internet usage.

However, it tracks data that is necessary for the software and its improvement. It collects data about the app’s use and data on your device like a model and operating system. It also keeps track of device identifiers that Atlas uses for analytical and marketing purposes.

Atlas VPN also blocks ads. It blocks annoying pop-ups and other online advertisements so you can enjoy a clean web without distracting ads.

Security: How Secure is Atlas VPN?

The element of a VPN is its safety. Protocols, encryption, and logs all makeup for military-grade security. Atlas VPN does well on safety: Here’s a summary:

  • Atlas VPN offers the IKEv2 and Wire guard protocols.
  • Atlas VPN does not keep logs of any user-identifiable data.
  • It has a kill switch on the desktop and mobile apps.
  • To create an Atlas VPN account, you need to provide an email address and payment information.

Atlas VPN protects your data with industry-standard 256-bit encryption. At the same time, it offers highly secure IKEv2 and WireGuard protocols. WireGuard will give you the best speeds. They have also implemented a ChaCha20 cipher with the Poly1305 authenticator that ensures next-gen security.

Atlas VPN uses a Kill Switch vital security feature. This kills your internet connection if the VPN connection drops. In this way, you remain anonymous and secured and your data can’t leak through an unsecured connection.

However, the KillSwitch feature does not auto-connect. This means that every time you connect to Atlas VPN, you have to secure the connection manually which feels annoying at times.  You also need to manually disable the kill switch to avoid being connected to the VPN all the time.

MultiHop in harmony with SafeSwap, routes your data through more than one server before moving on to the destination, again making you more difficult to track. There is very little control over how this works, unfortunately, only letting you pick a continent to route through, rather than specific countries as some VPN services do.

The Atlas VPN has a tracker blocker. This feature stops third-party trackers from gathering insights about your online activities. In harmony with this and data breach monitoring, you can see if any of your details are found on the dark web.

These features like rotating IP addresses along with ad and tracker blocking cheeses your security and privacy online.

Split tunneling which is their mobile-only feature channels part of your internet traffic through an encrypted VPN tunnel while the remaining traffic routes outside the VPN.

This is useful when you want to access local content without disconnecting from the VPN. It also comes in handy if certain apps you want to use do not work well with VPN turned on.

You can enable this feature from the “Settings” section in the Atlas VPN mobile app version. Here, you can select which apps to tunnel through your ISP and which ones to continue to be shielded by the VPN.

We would really want the Split tunneling feature to be on Windows and desktop apps too.

Atlas VPN Review: Performance & Speed Results

VPNs generally slow your connection down. It reduces the upload and download speeds, as well as increases latency. Let’s see what results in we have.

  1. Atlas VPN doesn’t support OpenVPN, but its IKEv2 speeds were reasonable at a mid-range 200-225Mbps in the UK.
  • Switching to WireGuard increased the speeds reaching 770Mbps in the UK and a similar 730-780Mbps in the US
  • Speed results were the best on the Netherlands and Japan servers, while the France server was the slowest.

We spent some more time playing with Atlas VPN. It might not be the fastest VPN, but makes your day in most cases. No delays when browsing, streaming, and even gaming.

On the initial VPN launch, I felt a slight delay opening the webpage, but then it went smoothly. Uploads and downloads of the file did not trouble us also.

Streaming: Atlas VPN is reliable and an excellent choice for streaming

I was able to unblock to geo-restrictions of Netflix, including Netflix US, UK, and Canada. I put on a random movie exclusive to Netflix Canada through Canadian servers and watched it. Not bad though.

However, many services crumble at accessing DAZN, as it’s a notoriously difficult service to unblock. Sadly, Atlas VPN is no exception there. So, if you’re interested in fighting sports, you’ll have to turn to other broadcasters.

Other streaming services such as HBO Max, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu worked. But, it was when I used the Atlas VPN premium version. It does really matter what countries’ content you want to unlock. Hence, Atlas VPN is reliable and a better choice for streaming enthusiasts.

Does Atlas VPN allow Torrenting?

Atlas VPN makes it easy to download torrents. At the moment there aren’t many countries and servers to connect to so you should not expect blazing-fast speeds in every corner of the planet. Recently, they also don’t have dedicated P2P servers.

Adding to this, Atlas VPN misses on the SOCKS5 proxy or port forwarding feature which makes it not recommendable for your PSP activities. However, despite this radio silence, this VPN is a great proposition if you want to torrent anonymously.

You would want to test the service yourself to obtain an approximate figure. Nevertheless, you’ll hit around 30-50mbps for the download speed. This will take about 7-8 minutes to download a 2.8 or 2.9 GB file. This can vary also.

This is to admit that Atlas VPN does not advertise the idea of torrenting, but it does work on their Atlas VPN free version and the speeds are acceptable.

Atlas VPN Servers

The best VPN services like SurShark, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and CyberGhost VPNs have thousands of servers. A new VPN like Atlas does not have so many of them. Nonetheless, it satisfies us and the users with sufficient options with sufficient speeds.

Here’s what we have to say about Atlas VPN’s server network:

  • Atlas VPN has 44 server locations in 37 countries. In total, they have over 750 servers.
  • Premium users have access to specialized servers for streaming.
  • Atlas VPN does not offer dedicated IP addresses.

Note: Atlas VPN’s free version gives access to only two locations. The Netherlands and USA (LA & New York).

How easy is it to use Atlas VPN Service Provider?

Atlas VPN is super easy to use. It does not require any technical knowings of any kind and makes the working experience so pleasurable. Atlas VPN offers apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. This free VPN also natively supports Android TV and Amazon Fire Stick.

The home screen features the server list and a large “ON” button. Click the button to initiate a connection to the nearest server. You can also scroll down the server list and select the location you wish to connect to.

Atlas VPN Customer Support

Although we did not have to reach out to customer support luckily, you can contact them via email. The average response time for support queries is 24 hours. So, if it’s something that is burning and pressing, Atlas VPN customer support is not ideal.

If you go to the “Help” section on their site, you’ll find some frequently asked questions and several support articles. I found this section a little narrow, and there’s scope for improving it with more detailed information. Below the support articles, there’s a button to contact the Atlas VPN customer support team.

Premium users can access the “live chat” support by logging into the Atlas VPN website. This is in fact a contact form to submit. I personally find it painstaking. A dedicated live chat feature on the homepage would be much more commendable.

Atlas VPN Pricing

Atlas VPN offers a free and a premium version of its service. You get 2 GB of free daily traffic and access to three server locations with the free Atlas VPN.

Atlas VPN Premium gives you access to 44 locations instead of three and has more security features, unlimited simultaneous connections, faster servers, and specialized servers for streaming.

Atlas VPN Premium offers three different subscription plans:

  • Three years for just $1.99 a month (billed the first three years at $71.49).
  • One year for $3.29 a month (billed yearly at $39.42).
  • One month for $10.99 (billed monthly).

The monthly fee is considerably lower when you subscribe to their services for a longer period. That’s why the three-year subscription is the cheapest option: it gives a massive 81% discount on the full price.

When you opt for Atlas VPN Premium, you can pay via Google Pay, credit card, PayPal, or crypto. Further, there’s a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try out the service to see whether it’s to your liking.

How Good Are the Atlas VPN Mobile Apps?

Aside from the Kill Switch and WireGuard support, Atlas’ Android VPN client is a lot better and more logical. The countries are sorted alphabetically in the location list and dedicated categories for servers optimal for streaming.

How to Redeem an Atlas VPN coupon/promo code?
