Have you ever wanted to record gameplay but don’t have the fancy capture cards? look no further than Xbox game bar. Xbox game bar is a gaming overlay that comes built into Windows 10 and 11. Xbox game bar will let you record up-to 30 minutes of gameplay, connect with your Xbox friends all from the comfort of your PC. If you don’t have this on your computer you can simply get it from the Microsoft store for free. To start up Xbox game bar simply press Windows+G. This will open up the application.

This is what the application basically looks like. As you can see there are multiple tabs, let’s individually see what each of them does. First of all we have the capture tab at the top left. From here, we can take a screenshot, record gameplay or record the mic. Below this, we have the audio tab, here we can adjust the slider accordingly to get our desired volume. The performance tab at the bottom shows us how much of our hardware e.g. CPU, GPU are being used at the current time in percentage. At the top right we have the socials tab, here we can add new friends or invite new friends, we can chat with them and even start voice chat. You can even connect with your friends on Xbox, or mobile whilst sitting on your PC. Other widgets that we can toggle on are the achievements widget, which shows us all the achievements we have unlocked in the game we are currently playing. Another resources widget functions similarly to our task manager and shows us the processes being run on our PC currently, and how much they impact performance.

Note that you will need to login to your Xbox account to use this application and connect with your friends. This application also lets you connect other socials e.g. Twitter, Reddit and Discord so you can add your friends from there, and directly share your recorded clips there. Moreover, you can set your own shortcuts for different commands like opening Xbox game bar, or starting recording. You can also edit other settings such as your mic sounds being included in game recordings.

This application is very simple and easy to understand and use. It is also very easy on the computer and will not cause any sort of lag or problems. It will run smoothly in the background while you play your games. However, the limitation of 30 minute recordings will make it hard for some people who need longer recordings. In this case, it would be best to switch to another recording platform such as Elgato. However, if you are a casual player and want to record a few short clips, while playing and chatting with your Xbox friends then this app will be good enough for you.
