Quest Patcher is a free, open-source GUI-based mod installer for any il2cpp Unity apps on the Oculus Quest 1 and 2 available for Windows, macOS, & Linux. It uses Sc2ad’s QuestLoader for loading mods and then patches them via RedBrumbler’s CLI Tool patching process. It was originally released for modding Gorilla Tag but now supports any il2cpp Unity apps available for Oculus Quest 1 and 2. Listed below are some prerequisites that need to be taken care of before you can start using it.
- Enable Developer Mode on Oculus Quest 2 & 1.
- Install SideQuest.
- Install Java (JRE).
Note: You must follow these steps in the order they’re given to get it working successfully.
How to Enable Developer Mode On Oculus Ouest 2 & 1
Since we’re about to install mods developer mode needs to be enabled before installing this app. Follow the steps given below to enable developer mode on Oculus Quest 2/1.
Step 1: Visit this official Oculus page and sign in with your Oculus account.
Step 2: Write any name you want in the Organization Name section, put a check next to I Understand, and click on Submit. (In case the name is already taken, select something else).
Step 3: Once that is done, open the Oculus app on your Android mobile. Tap on Devices from the bottom menu and then tap on Developer Mode as shown below. Now switch Developer Mode to ON and proceed to the next requirement.
How to Get SideQuest on Oculus Quest 2 & 1
SideQuest is needed to manage apps and files on your Quest VR devices. So we will download the Advanced Installer from the SideQuest website. Then follow the steps below to install it.
Step 1: Launch the setup file of SideQuest and follow the installer’s instructions to install it.
Step 2: When installation is done, proceed to the next step.
Install Java (Java Runtime Environment)
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is needed for the first time patching this app does. Here’s how you can download and install it.
Step 1: Download Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
Step 2: Launch the installer and click on Install. Now Java is installed.
How to Download & Install Quest Patcher

Step 1: Scroll to the top of this page to get the Quest Patcher download “QuestPatcher-windows-standalone.zip“. (This is the standalone version of QuestPatcher that does not need any installation).

How to Use Quest Patcher
It can be used to mod any il2cpp Unity game but for this example, we will be modding Gorilla Tag. Let’s begin!
Step 1: Launch both QuestPatcher & SideQuest.
Step 2: If you see a green circle in the top left corner of SideQuest that means the previous steps were successful and you can go ahead and click on Patch my app in QPatcher. It may pick up Gorilla Tag by default so if you want to mod another app then press Browse as shown below.
Step 3: Simply drag and drop your mods (in .qmod format) into it and the mods will start loading. You can then easily enable or disable them using the enable/disable toggle button next to their name.
Step 4: That’s it you’ve successfully loaded mods into Gorilla Tag using this app.
Note: When you first launch your Oculus Quest 1 or 2 device after installing a mod, you will be asked to repair some broken files. Quest does not know that we’ve installed mods and instead thinks files are corrupted, just click on Close to dismiss this message.
How to Uninstall Quest Patcher
To uninstall the app simply go to the Add or Remove Programs menu, right-click on the app, and click Uninstall. Follow the uninstaller’s instructions and it will be uninstalled.
