How To Use InputMapper
To get started with this app we must first connect a controller to the Windows PC.
Step 1: Launch it via the exe file.
Step 2: Connect your controller using a USB wire or using a Bluetooth dongle. We suggest using a DualShock 4 controller (DS4), an Xbox 360 controller, or an Xbox One Controller.
Step 3: Once you see your controller inside the app, you can now modify its settings according to your liking using the Device Tuning, Feedback Settings, and Device Settings buttons.
Step 4: Clicking on the Profiles section from the left menu will allow you to manage existing and create new profiles.
Step 5: Click on any profile to edit its settings or create a new one, From here you can edit all of the controller’s mappings including what your DualShock 4 controller’s touchpad will do.
Step 6: To enable the infamous Exclusive Mode, go to Settings then General, and put a check next to Use Exclusive Mode. This will give the program exclusive control over the controller. This can also prevent a game from detecting 2 controllers and taking double input.
InputMapper Alternatives
The only other software that can offer equal or even more features is DS4Windows. Both software have their pros and cons. Take a look at the section below to make a better-informed decision on which one you should use.
InputMapper vs DS4Windows
The major difference between both these apps is the controllers they support. Input Mapper supports Xbox One & Xbox 360 Controllers, DS3 (with a specific USB dongle only) and Dual Shock 4. On the other hand, DS4Windows is made specifically for PlayStation controllers and has support for DualShock 4 and Dual Sense (PS5 Controller). It also offers controller-specific features like lighting on the DS4 and DS5.
DS4Windows also does not require DS3 to be connected via a specific USB dongle and is also available on Mac which is a huge plus. Input Mapper on the other hand is limited to only Windows PC users.
