Solution 1 – Check if the Device itself is Working
It is totally possible that after a Windows 10 update, your device happened to die right at the time you upgraded to Windows 10.
You can unplug the USB/eject and plug it into another computer.
If that makes it get going then the device is fine.
If it doesn’t work, then you might want a replacement of it.
Solution 2 – Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
- Open Control Panel.
- Search Troubleshoot and click on Troubleshooting.
- Now, click on View all in the left pane.

Solution 3 – Try a Different USB port
If in-case your USB suddenly stops working, you may want to try a different USB port.

Check your laptop’s power supply to ensure if your USB ports are working.

- Open Device Manager from the Windows search field.
- Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch
- Double-click the first USB Root Hub device in the list

- Un-check the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power checkbox, and click OK.
- Repeat steps 3-5 for each USB Root Hub device in your list of Universal Serial Bus controllers
If the above method did not help to fix USB ports not working in Windows 10, then you may want to try the below method.
Solution 6: Windows Registry Fix
You can do the same thing in the other way if the above settings are greyed out or power management tab is missing.
- Press Windows Key + R then type ‘regedit‘ and hit Enter.
- Navigate to the following registry key:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB]
- Find DisableSelectiveSuspend in the right window pane, if it’s not present then right-click in an empty area and select New > DWORD (32-bit) value.
- Name the above key as DisableSelectiveSuspend and then double click on it to change its value.
- In the Value data field, type 1 to disable the Selective Suspend feature and then click OK.
- Reboot your PC to save changes.

Solution 7 – Disable and Re-enable the USB controller
- Press Windows key + R to launch the Run command.
- Type ‘devmgmt.msc‘ and hit enter. This will open Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers in the Device Manager.
- Now right-click on the first USB controller and then click on Uninstall.
- Repeat this step for each USB controller present under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Reboot your PC to save changes. This will reset a USB port.
- Windows will automatically reinstall all the USB controllers that you have uninstalled.
- Now, check again your USB device to see whether it works.

Solution 8 – Update Drivers for all of your USB Controllers
- Open up the Run command. Type ‘devmgmt.msc‘ and hit enter to open the device manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers in the Device Manager.
- Now right-click on the first USB controller and then click Update Driver Software.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Click Next.
- Perform the same step for each of the USB controller present under the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Restart your PC. This will save the changes.
