Why do Jobs get stuck in the print queue?
Print jobs get stuck in a queue primarily because of the Print spooler. This is a service that manages the printing process. But this service can sometimes fail to function normally.

Fix 1 – Use Command Prompt to delete print queue
Note: This guide works for almost every printer including Hp, & Dell, on Windows 10, 8 & 7.
- Fire up the command prompt and run it as administrator.
- In the pop-up window, type the following commands separately.
net stop spooler- del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q
net start spooler- This will clear print jobs stuck in deleting status
Fix 2 – Fire up Services Window
- Launch the “RUN” dialogue box.
- Type services.msc and hit Enter.
- In the pop-up window, navigate to Print Spooler or (click on the screen and type Print Spooler)
- Right-click Print spooler and select “STOP”.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
- Delete all the files that are therein.
- CAUTION! Do NOT delete the folder itself.
- Now restart the “print spooler” in the same way you did to stop it.
- If the problem still persists, continue troubleshooting to remove a stuck print job.
Fix 3- Cancel documents waiting to print
Often sometimes clearing a single stuck document can get your printer going again. Other times, you might want to cancel all the printing documents from the queue and restart the printing again. Whatever the case, you can always clear the stuck print queue.
- Head over to “Start menu” and type Control Panel.
- In the appearing window, select “Devices and Printers”.
- Right-click the desired printer and click “See what’s printing”.

The print queue window shows the print jobs currently awaiting printing. If a single document is causing the problem and you have more than one document in the queue, it’s usually the earliest document that’s stuck.
Click the header for the “Submitted” column so that the documents are arranged in the order they were submitted, with the earliest at the top.
